How We Started
Kintara began in 2008 under the leadership of Signi Murgatroyd. Singers from Connie Le Beau’s earlier choir Inspirata formed the core group.
Signi’s background in music and vocal coaching has created a unique sound and a learning experience that is joyful and fun.
Our wonderful Kintara pianist, Charlotte Hale, is an experienced and sensitive coach and a collaborative musician.
How We Roll
Kintara Women’s Chorus is a community of singers directed by a board of choir volunteers, with choristers helping keep us organized behind the scenes.
As a community choir, we believe in supporting the greater community. Net proceeds from past concerts have been donated to local and international charitable organizations.
We’re a social group! Annual welcome back socials, monthly pub nights and amazing end-of-season potlucks bring us together to share our lives.

Our Leaders in Song
Signi Murgatroyd, Conductor and Musical Director
Signi Murgatroyd (MMus., BMus., A.R.C.T. (Voice)) is the dynamic Conductor and Artistic Director of Victoria’s Kintara Women’s Chorus. In addition to reveling in the sound of women’s voices, Signi works as a private voice teacher. Signi has a varied background in singing and has performed in Classical Voice Recitals as well as a jazz vocalist in a small ensemble and big band. She is a graduate of University of British Columbia (BMus) and the University of Victoria (MMus). As a choral director, Signi focuses on healthy vocal production linked with high performance standards.

Charlotte Hale, Accompanist
Charlotte Hale enjoys musical partnerships with many singers and instrumentalists and is also a classically trained soprano. She was a long-time faculty member at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and the University of Victoria, and now has a successful private studio. She is very active as a free-lance accompanist, coach and chamber musician.
